COVID-19 has turned most of our worlds - and the world itself - upside down, canceled plans, and unfortunately, taken many lives. As we prepare to go back to some semblance of normal life, we need to start preparing for what that might look like. Below is a list of ten activities that campsite owners can offer their campers while maintaining proper social distancing guidelines. Pick one, pick two, or pick them all. And most of all, have a safe and healthy summer at your campgrounds.
1 - Trivia/Bingo
Mark off your seats to six feet apart and pick your favorite socially distancing friendly game for the camp to enjoy. Bingo and trivia are great choices. A megaphone/speaker system is optional but recommended if you’re campground residents are spaced out. Make sure to not reuse cards. Alternatively, have participants print out/make their own to avoid hand to hand contact.
2 - Fireworks Shows
As long as your area permits the use of fireworks, putting on a show can be a great way to entertain your residents from the comfort of their own home. Let everyone know what time to be ready to watch and feel free to set up viewing areas with sections that are six feet or more apart from one another.
3 - Live Music
Setting up times for live music to be played at the campgrounds can provide a great deal of value and entertainment to your guests. Make sure there is a viewing area that abides by social distancing guidelines and set up stations for hand washing and sanitizing before and after coming to the performance. You might even have a talented guest that would perform! Bonus: If you can’t book anyone to play or have a guest perform, playing music on speakers is a great option as well.
4 - Simon Says
Separated by at least six feet, this could be a great way to keep everyone (but especially kids) entertained. Have someone lead the group in a game of Simon Says and then have a prize for the winner!
5 - Stand Up Paddling
If your campgrounds are near or on the water, stand up paddling is a great way to get people active, outside, and still six feet apart from one another. Set up rental times and be sure to sanitize the equipment properly before letting guests take them out on the water.
6 - Touchless Obstacle Courses
Set up an obstacle course that doesn’t involve touching any surfaces for your guests to compete in. Have hand sanitizer at both the beginning and the end of the course for added safety precautions and see who can make it through the fastest. Obstacles can include poles to run between, tires to step through, hills to run up, and whatever else you can think up!
There are plenty more activities that can be done at campgrounds even while we’re dealing with a nasty virus like COVID-19. Let these six ideas serve as a guide and let your imagination run free creating new activities to not only keep guests happy, but help take their minds off of everything that’s going on in the world. Even if it is a brief moment, it can mean a whole lot to your guests to get to disconnect and have some fun!
